High profile drug abuse

I know that there has been more and more headlines and news stories about celebrities and high profile drug abusers. I just found this press release from the International Narcotics Control Board and found it very interesting.

I am just curious as to what kind of opinions people have on the treatment of celebrities and high profile people when it comes to their substance abuse. I know that personally I feel that they should be treated just like anyone else. In treating them different I feel it is hurting them in the long run. It is only allowing their addictions to progress and make their situations worse. Please tell me what you feel about the INCB's statements on the issue and your own opinions.

Comments:
I find it very sad the way the press treats celebrities with drug and alcohol addiction. If I were put into that situation when I first got sober it only would have added to the shame and guilt that I had already piled up from my past. While I do feel that the public should be more informed on the disease of addiction as a whole, profiting from others who are brave enough in the first place to reach out as will only hinder them in their future. Which I think brings up the question. How much do we contribute to the media and there actions as a whole? Will we continue to support them profiting for their efforts?
